Salt mining at Ses Salines, pink salt.

In the middle of a nature reserve with pink coloured flamingos lies Les Salines at the southern tip of the island. Wide fields that extract salt from the seawater fascinated us. The travel guide reported that the white salt is intended for industry and the pink salt is marketed as table salt.

Between all the fields we saw flamingos and discovered other marine animals. We could buy salt as a souvenir and for our own use in a factory hut. Outside inconspicuous and inside full of treasures we found the “pink gold. How many variants and mixtures with pink salt we could hardly determine. That we did not have to buy still another bag additionally for the home flight was due to my man, who said sometimes stop and thus my desire to buy braked. Some of our family members and friends still enjoy the delicious salt mixtures today.

Our conclusion after our visit of Ses Salines

The visit to the salt extraction area was definitely worth it. Thousands of tons of salt are fascinating to look at. We were literally blinded and quickly put on our sunglasses. A varied land and sea animal world in the national park invite to stay.
